i’ve been reading about the censored eleven merrie melodies/looney tunes that were banned in 1968 and this one especially is interesting. apparently the director did it partially as an homage to the vibrant l.a. black jazz culture that he was a fan of. a lot of the imagery is at the very least racially insensitive, and at points downright offensive (if you’re a sally sensitive type), but it’s definitely an important piece of history and well worthy of watching. i was led to all of this information by one of my favourite movies of all time, bamboozled.
